The brand
Grupo Garvalín has made children’s shoes in Elche since 1968. Biomecanics is the line it launched in 1996 with the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia — a non-profit technology centre founded in 1976 and coordinated with the Universitat Politècnica de València — using three-dimensional measurements of European children’s feet to shape its lasts and soles.
The published study behind the brand, IBV PROY21/0128 of December 2021, tested first-walker shoes on children aged fourteen to twenty-five months. IBV’s own report notes that a longitudinal study would be needed before drawing conclusions about foot development. We tell you what the research covers and stop there.
How this brand sizes
Do not add a centimetre. The allowance is already in the chart.
Biomecanics maps foot length straight to size. An 11.8 cm foot is a size 19; a 13.2 cm foot is a size 21. Measure, read the chart, order that size.
- Some retailers advise sizing up. That contradicts the brand’s own instruction.
- No E, F or G width letters — extra width comes from the separate Wider line.
- Canvas and Biohome may run slightly large; take the usual size.
- BioAqua is roomier; take the usual size as a maximum, never larger.
- Biogateo prints a foot silhouette on the insole. The foot should sit inside it on first wear.
- The insole is flat, not contoured. Biomecanics makes no foot-support claim for it, and neither do we.
